Advances in spatial economic data analysis: methods and applications
2021
Spatial economic studies traditionally exploit areal data at the regional or sub-regional level. More recently, scholars have started to exploit spatial data of a different nature and, at the same time, extend the fields of application in economics. Specifically, this special issue contributes to the spatial economic literature by providing empirical evidence on a wide range of phenomena (socio-economic deprivation, land price volatility, electoral competition, real estate market, firm survival and tourism economics) and exploiting data at the municipality, firm, house and even individual level. At the same time, it tackles some of the methodological issues faced by the above-mentioned anal…
Modelling a real situation with tablets: the ball experiment
2015
[EN] In this study we present an experience carried out in an 11th grade class. We use a teaching model designed to work the concepts of family of functions and parameter through the modelling. This model has the characteristic that the data are obtained by students in classroom using tablets and it includes elements that allow them to manage the modelling process. The analysis of the results revealed that the realization of a previous qualitative analysis of the phenomenon studied and the students’ knowledge about the families of functions and the meaning of the parameters are key elements in the management and control of the entire process. Besides, we obtained information about the stude…
Learning the concept of family of functions through the modelling process using tablets
2015
International audience; In this study, we present a teaching situation to work on the modelling process using real data taken in classroom with tablets. The situation allowed us to work on the concept of the quadratic function with a group of 11th grade students and take into account the hypothesis that the qualitative analysis of the phenomenon, the knowledge of the qualitative properties of the families of functions and the meaning of the parameters are crucial elements for the management and control of the modelling process. We observed they are key elements to choose the function used as a model and to check its adequacy throughout the modelling process. Some student's conceptions on he…
